Set over Labor Day Weekend in coastal New England, The Extinction of Fireflies follows a writer looking for some feedback from a few close friends.
James (Drew Droege), a middle-aged playwright, invites longtime friend and legendary TV diva Charlotte (Tracie Bennett) and occasionally working actor friend Jay (Michael Urie) to read his latest dramatic effort – a tricky piece of work based on the epic romance of Roman Emperor Hadrian and his young lover Antinous.
When Jay ends up bringing along his new – and much younger – lover Callisto (Kario Marcel), the feedback proves spectacular and the fireworks begin to fly.
Written and directed by James Andrew Walsh, based on his stage play of the same title, The Extinction of Fireflies is a thoughtful, funny and layered passion project about art, creativity and aging as gracefully as possible.
