Fever

2014, France

High school students Damien and Pierre (Martin Loizillon and Pierre Moure), both from wealthy families, have the world at their fingertips… yet they plan and carry out the murder of an unknown woman they have previously only spotted on the street. The police are at a loss, confused by this murder without motive. Zoe (Julie-Marie Parmentier), an optician in the neighborhood, who is feeling more and more moved by this inexplicable murder, bumps into the pair by chance. But this chance fleeting encounter reveals inside her a growing and mysterious desire. Although scared – she could easily be the next victim – her erotic attraction for the duo goes beyond that. It gives her a chance to find a way out of the loveless rut that her life has ended up in. Meanwhile, Damien and Pierre, thinking no one will catch them, embark on a journey deep within their pasts. Inspired by the notorious Leopold and Loeb case from the 1920s, Fever is an enthralling, subtly homoerotic thriller.

Do You Take This Man

2016, United States

Anthony Rapp may be in a lot of recent headlines thanks to his bravery in being the first to publicly out Kevin Spacey as a massive creep, but lets not forget that he’s an excellent actor who heads up some terrific gay-themed movies. Here, he leads an impressive ensemble cast in a touching comedy-drama about a long-term gay couple having last-minute jitters before they get married. On the eve of their wedding, Daniel (Rapp) and Christopher (Mean Girls heartthrob Jonathan Bennett) are having their closest friends and family over for dinner. But when a long-lost friend of Christopher’s shows up unexpectedly, and their already stressful day spirals out of control, the couple realizes they must rely on the kindness of their pals and relatives to get through the event in one piece. Co-starring familiar faces like Thomas Dekker, Mackenzie Astin, Marla Sokoloff and “How I Met Your Mother” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star Alyson Hannigan, Do You Take This Man is a realistic and absorbing look into what it takes to make a relationship work in this day and age.

Halloween Highlights: 50 Queer Horror Flicks We Think Are Worth a Look – Part 3

If you’re the same kind of scare-seeking movie geek that I am, you’ll know that October is a time to light a few candles, turn down the lights, open up the windows to let in that fresh autumn breeze… before really setting the mood with some seasonally-appropriate scary movies! Being authorities on all things gay-cinema, though, we at TLAgay.com wanted to put in a good word for some queer movies that don’t make the usual ranked horror lists. We came up with a selection of 50 different gay titles that are either direct horror movies or horror adjacent (suspense, mysteries, thrillers). Below, you’ll find part three of our ongoing list – in alphabetical order – with new lists appearing each Monday in October. Keep checking back each week for the latest additions!

We tried to limit these to films that are currently available on our site – either on DVD or Blu-ray, or available via our On-Demand service. If a movie is missing from this list, chances are good it’s just out of print or otherwise currently unavailable/hard to access. This isn’t, as you’ll see, a definitive list of the greatest gay horror – that’s not what we were going for. This is just a sampling of some offerings that usually fly under the radar. Some are good, some are great, some are delightfully campy and ridiculous, some might be downright terrible, but they’re all available to help get your into the Halloween spirit!

Halloween Highlights: 50 Queer Horror Flicks We Think Are Worth a Look – Part 1

If you’re the same kind of scare-seeking movie geek that I am, you’ll know that October is a time to light a few candles, turn down the lights, open up the windows to let in that fresh autumn breeze… before really setting the mood with some seasonally-appropriate scary movies! This month, I’m sure we’ll revisit some tried and true classics (think The Exorcist, The Shining, Rosemary’s Baby, the original Halloween). I have plans to finally bust open the Criterion Collection edition of Don’t Look Now I bought forever ago. Below, you’ll find the first ten movies – in alphabetical order – with new lists appearing each Monday in October. Keep checking back each week for the latest additions!
