Dry Wind
A gloriously erotic new film from Brazilian director Daniel Nolasco, Dry Wind follows factory worker Sandro (Leandro Faria Lelo) as he escapes his rural boredom via secret trysts with his co-worker Ricardo (Allan Jacinto Santana) – and through elaborate sexual fantasies that would make Tom of Finland himself blush. Life, as he knows it, is about to change. The holiday specter will teach him to cherish the moments that makes lasting memories, as what was once is no more. The Family Tree is an unusual new gay Christmas romance from prolific indie director Jorge Ameer.
Dirtwoman
Described as “a living, breathing John Waters movie,” the delightfully profane and surprisingly tender new documentary Dirtwoman puts a spotlight on the late, great Donnie “Dirtwoman” Corker, a drag legend of Richmond, Virginia. A gay pioneer, mayoral candidate (and inauguration crasher), mud wrestler, rock star, pin-up model, dog food gourmet and all-around dirty diva, he was one of Richmond’s most well-known counterculture personalities. As a cross-dressing drag performer, Donnie embodied the spirit of the city through his uniqueness, his individuality, dedication and good deeds. Packed with interviews and intimate, often hysterically funny footage, director Jerry Williams has crafted a loving and deeply engaging tribute to a unique icon. Dirtwoman will make you laugh while warming your heart.
Treacle
From screenwriter-star April Kelley and director Rosie Westhoff, the new 18-minute short film Treacle tells the story of Belle (Kelley) and Jessie (Ariana Anderson), two friends who go on a weekend getaway together to help Jessie get over a recent breakup. Road-tripping through California, we follow them over the course of 24 hours as Belle convinces Jessie to not cancel the trip she’d originally planned to go on with her ex. Lines begin to blur between them when the always-heterosexual Jessie, in her drunken, post breakup loneliness, kisses the bisexual Belle. In collaboration with the Bisexual Resource Center, the film supports the notion that bisexuality isn’t just a phase or an experiment nor is the ‘B’ there to just help the acronym roll off the tongue.
Mr. Leather
In April of 2018, São Paulo played host to the second annual Brazilian Mr. Leather competition… and things got heated, to say the least. The new film Mr. Leather offers you a front-row seat – and takes you deep behind the scenes – as five individual contestants vie for full leather dominance. The winner will be crowned by Dom Barbudo, the first official Mr. Leather of Brazil. Along with victory comes a year-long commitment to promoting the leather community throughout the country, even in the face of increasingly conservative values and political unrest. Also from talented writer-director Daniel Nolasco (see Dry Wind above), Mr. Leather follows all the action, creating gorgeous and intensely provocative compositions that celebrate the unique power of this thriving subculture.
