The Lawyer
Life just drifts by for corporate lawyer Marius (Eimutis Kvosciauskas)… until he finds an unexpected connection with the dark and handsome Ali (Dogac Yildiz), an incredibly attractive young Syrian refugee who makes his living as a sex-cam worker. After Marius’s estranged father passes away, his infatuation intensifies. It isn’t long before he’s completely obsessed. He inevitably flies to Belgrade to meet Ali with in person, in hopes of a romantic week with the object of his infatuation. Although, off-camera, things might not be exactly as they seemed. An intense romantic drama, The Lawyer is the newest film from prolific filmmaker Romas Zabarauskas, the same writer-director behind Porno Melodrama and You Can’t Escape Lithuania.

Song Lang
Set in a richly imagined 1980s Saigon, Song Lang is both a gritty underworld noir and an operatic romance. An unlikely bond develops between hunky, brooding Dung (Lien Binh Phat), a tough debt collector for a ruthless loan shark, and Linh Phung (popular V-pop singer Isaac), a charismatic young opera singer. The two meet when Dung comes to forcefully collect a debt from the struggling opera troupe. But when their paths cross again, a deep friendship develops, awakening romantic feelings in both men. Making his feature-length debut, director Leon Le serves up a uniquely lush melodrama, teasing a smoldering relationship between two apparent opposites set against the backdrop of a gorgeous art form as it fades out of fashion.

Cubby
From first-time filmmaker Mark Blane, Cubby is a wild and surreal comedy about a woefully immature gay illustrator (played by Blane himself) who makes his way from his mom’s garage in Indiana to Brooklyn without a clue how to sustain himself or foster basic relationships. Alone and penniless, Mark wedges his way into his old college roommate’s crammed apartment, taking a job as a part-time babysitter. Struggling to bond with his temperamental roommates and comically ill-equipped to respond to flirtations from a cute neighbor, Mark finds an unusual kinship in two individuals: the energetic six-year-old he babysits (who ignites his creativity) and a mystical leather daddy (who becomes his spiritual guide).

Papi Chulo
From John Butler, the writer-director of Handsome Devil, comes a heartfelt comedy starring Matt Bomer, Ryan Guzman, Wendi McLendon-Covey and more. After a newly-single local TV weatherman (Bomer) is put on leave following an on-air meltdown, he directs his energy into home improvement and hires a middle-aged Latino day laborer named Ernesto (Alejandro Patino) to help. Despite a language barrier and having nothing much in common, the two men develop an unexpected but profound friendship in this darkly comedic reflection on class, ethnicity and companionship in contemporary Los Angeles. The performances are superb in this touching new buddy comedy that aims to break down long-standing social barriers.

Kanarie
Drafted by the South African Army, Johan (Schalk Bezuidenhout) has a love for Boy George and Depeche Mode that lands him a spot in the SADF Choir called the ‘Canaries.’ Against a landscape where law and religion oppress individuality, Johan and the Canaries have to survive military training and go on a nationwide tour, entertaining people whilst fortifying belief in the military effort and promoting the cause of both Church and State. Then, an unexpected romance on the battlefield forces Johan to reckon with his long-repressed sexual identity. Examining the effects of nationalism on the soul, while also exploring a tender brotherhood among misfits, this musical comedy revels in finding your voice and learning to fly.

I Miss You When I See You
Jamie (Bryant Ji-Lok Mak), on his way to visit his uncle in Melbourne, stops by Sydney to see his old school friend Kevin (Jun Li), who lives in a group home due to crippling depression. It’s been over a decade since they last saw each other back in Hong Kong, but the two reconnect as if no time has passed. Jamie gives Kevin an open offer to visit him in Hong Kong anytime – an offer Kevin cannot refuse. Now back in his homeland, Kevin quickly overstays his welcome, and his presence causes a rift between Jamie and his suspicious girlfriend (Candy Cheung). Through it all, the true reason for Jamie and Kevin’s estrangement hangs over them like a raincloud, a reason further elucidated in a series of flashbacks to their confusing, treacherous school years. Director Simon Chung‘s I Miss You When I See You navigates a tense landscape of modern masculinity.

Monster Pies
Does anyone ever forget the time they felt the incredible force of first love? Mike (Tristan Barr) has always felt like an outsider. When his English teacher pairs him up for a class assignment on “Romeo and Juliet” with hot new kid William (Lucas Linehan), Mike can’t believe his luck. As the two spend more and more time working together on a monster movie version of the Bard’s classic tale, they soon realize their feelings for one another may be more powerful than either is truly ready for. A touching and original tearjerker from Australia all about the encompassing power of first love, Monster Pies is sure to move even the hardest of hearts. Originally released in 2013, the film earned rave reviews and won the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival.

One Kiss
Antonio (Leonardo Pazzagli) is a star basketball player on his high-school team, but that doesn’t mean he’s popular. Soft-spoken, awkward, and still grieving over his older brother’s death, he’s excluded from his teammates and considered dumb. Blu (Valentina Romani), who has a reputation for her sexual exploits, defiantly rides her scooter past graffiti labeling her a “slut.” Lorenzo (Rimau Ritzberger Grillo), new in town as well as newly adopted, relies on his extravagant sense of fashion and elaborate imagination to distract him from the bullies at school. These three teens form a friendship and a defense against the closed-minded bullies who constantly berate them. Reminiscent of ’60s New Wave forerunners like Truffaut’s Jules et Jim and Godard’s Bande a parteOne Kiss is a story of outsider friendship and the consequence of honesty.

Heartstone
In a remote fishing village in Iceland, teens Thor and Christian (Baldur Einarsson and Blaer Hinriksson) experience a turbulent summer. As one of them tries to win the heart of a girl, the other discovers that he is harboring romantic feelings toward his best friend. When summer ends and the harsh nature of Iceland takes back its rights, it’s time to leave the playground and face adulthood for the first time. A gorgeous, emotional coming-of-age film, Heartstone won the hearts of critics all over the world. The Playlist said it’s “beautifully shot, touchingly performed and delivered with a thrillingly atmospheric sense of place.” And Screen International said it’s “affecting as well as perceptive in how it intimately depicts the blossoming of youth… just the right amount of confidence, compassion and clear-eyed style.”

Boys
In this beautiful and uplifting gay romance, two teen track stars discover first love as they train for the biggest relay race of their young lives. Chiseled Dutch phenom Gijs Blom stars as Sieger, a thoughtful 15-year-old who grapples mightily with his emerging gayness. Equally handsome Ko Zandvliet co-stars as his love interest, the spirited and outgoing Marc. In their boyish summer courtship the two of them swim, bike, run – and share ice creams and kisses as they gradually find the courage to be vulnerable with one another. The romance between them unfolds with a palpable sense of longing – and an aching sequence of heartache as Sieger tries to fight the inevitable.

Cousins
From writer-director-star Thiago Cazado, the creator behind the 2017 gay romance About Us, comes a controversial and supremely sexy new coming-of-age love story. Young Lucas (Paulo Sousa) lives with his religious Aunt Lourdes (Juliana Zancanaro) in a quiet country town, where he dutifully helps her proselytize by playing biblical songs on his keyboard. His quiet life is soon agitated, however, when his aunt announces the arrival of another nephew named Mario (Thiago Cazado), who has just been released from jail. Forced to share a bedroom, these two cousins find their personalities clashing… until an unexpected attraction starts to bond them together. Packed with male nudity and cousin-to-cousin sexual tension, this new film is not afraid to push boundaries.

Free Fall
Max Riemelt, the super-sexy star of Sense8, and hottie Hanno Koffler co-star as gay lovers in this wildly popular drama. It’s been called the German Brokeback Mountain for its portrayal of forbidden love between two police cadets as previously heterosexual Marc (Koffler) and fellow male cop Kay (Riemelt) embark on an unexpected life-changing affair. Free Fall is part of a new wave of powerful German cinema. As director Stephan Lacant’s first feature film, the film tells the dramatic tale of a man who finds himself outside the clear-cut boundaries of his world. Exceptional performances from Koffler, Riemelt and Katharina Schüttler provide a moving portrayal of what happens when life plans crumble and there is no way left to fulfill the needs of the people you love.
