Boys

2018, France

Following one man through two timelines, Boys, the newest feature from director Christophe Charrier, is a gripping and compassionate study of first love and the lingering sting of loss. We first meet Jonas (BPM: Beats Per Minute star Felix Maritaud) in the present, where he’s having a rough go of it. He’s prone to starting fights at the local gay bar, and his boyfriend has had enough of his infidelity and alcohol-soaked antics. His volatile behavior may stem from a traumatic incident in his past. The film flashes back to 1997, where Jonas (played as a high school kid by Nicolas Bauwens) meets Nathan (Tommy Lee Baik), the rebellious new student who will become his crush. The boys venture into the night on their first date unaware that it’s about to change their lives forever. Don’t miss this searing mystery.

Death in Buenos Aires

2014, Argentina

A big hit in Argentina, where it was filmed, Death in Buenos Aires is a gripping police thriller about corruption, paranoia, and the secret gay lives of the wealthy elite of Buenos Aires during the politically tumultuous 1980s. At the scene of a murder of one of the city’s high society figures, veteran police inspector Chavez (Demian Bichir) runs into Gomez (Chino Darin), a.k.a. El Ganso (The Goose), a handsome young rookie cop with dreams of advancement. When Chavez discovers that the murder may be linked to a small-time hustler, and the gay nightclub La Manila, the detective sends the rookie undercover to pose as a newcomer on the prowl for an older benefactor. As they come close to luring out the killer, the erotic charge of their new surroundings triggers changes in both Chavez and Gomez. Director Natalia Meta‘s deeply involving debut film delivers rich, multi-faceted characters that match the complexity of its riveting story.

Boy Undone

2018, Mexico

Two young men spend the night together after meeting the previous evening in a notorious gay club. The next day, however, the host wakes to find that the boy he picked up is bewildered and confused, unable to remember his name or anything about his past. Lacking any type of identification or obvious clues, the boys begin to search for the truth among fragments of memories that may or may not prove reliable. A chilling homoerotic thriller from Mexican writer-director Leopoldo Laborde (A Beautiful Secret, Sin Destino), Boy Undone is queer guerrilla filmmaking at its most intense. The two lead actors, both newcomers, offer up a ton of male nudity in some seriously graphic sex scenes that are only matched by the violence and tension that ensues. Make sure to watch this one with the shades drawn!

Longhorns

2011, United States

The setting is a Texas college circa 1982. Here, men are men, women are just future wives (or current sluts), and there is nothing gay about helping a buddy get off! Good ol’ fratboy Kevin (Jacob Newton) is straight as an arrow (if you don’t count his gay fantasies – or the fact that he loves jerking off his fellow frat brothers) but he begins to see things a little differently when he meets the sexy, openly gay César (Derek Villanueva). Can a straight guy fall for another dude? And can Kevin continue going down on his pals under the belief that it’s just frat boy hijinks? And will kissing César change him forever? Never has a film featured so many straight men doing so many gay things! Beer is guzzled, pants are dropped and playful bed-hopping ensues. Fast, funny and sexy – what more could you want from a film?
