These aren’t our TOP 5, by any means – just a handful of flicks we want to highlight.

Hawaii
The sexual tension practically spills off the screen in this sweaty, titillating romance from award-winning director Marco Berger (the same guy behind Absent, Plan B, Sexual Tension: Volatile and Testosterone). Hawaii follows Martin and Eugenio (Manuel Vignau and Mateo Chiarino), two former childhood friends who reunite during a hot summer in the Argentinean countryside. As they work together to restore Eugenio’s summer home, a game of power and desire ensues the two buddies to grapple with their sexual attraction and reconsider their relationship. With gorgeous cinematography, a lush setting and compelling lead performances, Hawaii is an intimate character study that percolates with lustful longing. Have a towel ready before you watch it. You are bound to break a sweat!

Teenage Kicks
The scars of our youth shape the adults we become. In this riveting Australian drama, angst-ridden seventeen-year-old Miklos (Miles Szanto) makes plans to escape his migrant family and run away with his best friend and secret crush Dan (cutie-pie Daniel Webber, hot off his star-making turns in 11.22.63, The Punisher and The Dirt). Miklos’s dreams are dashed after the accidental death of his older brother Tomi (Nadim Kobeissi). Only he knows the events that led to this tragedy. Suddenly, he is forced to navigate his guilt, as well as his explosive sexuality, in order to find the man he will become. Written and directed by Craig Boreham, who recently made MTV’s list of “hot filmmakers to watch,” Teenage Kicks is a smart and sexy drama that has earned rave reviews around the globe. Empire magazine labeled it “a debut not to be missed.”

Downriver
Sometimes the path to redemption is paved in sin. Eighteen-year-old James (Reef Ireland) has just been released from juvenile detention after serving time for his involvement in the suspected drowning of a young boy in a river years earlier. Ravaged with uncertainty, dealing with an estranged family and expecting to face the dead boy’s mother, James is set upon a journey of self discovery, shocking revelations and danger as questions surrounding the boy’s death brim to the surface. Old friendships are questioned, family ties are tested and lives are put on the line as James must find his path to the truth. Its a path that will lead him downriver… or toward the truth.

True Love
Prolific gay filmmaker Michael J. Saul assembles a group of his short films that take us up the cliff of first love and leave us dangling and wanting – much like his characters. This dramatic collection of short films begins with a very emotional silent work and ends the same way – but have no fear, there’s lots of spicy dialogue and kisses in between! A Christmas Story follows a little boy and his gender-crossing attempts to get attention from his parents. In Going Gay, a young man is caught having sex with his best friend. History tells the story of a gay uncle and his now-adult nephew dealing with their past. A couple spends their morning in bed in the moving love story Sunday. He Was Perfect follows a young man on a search for love. Staying Together takes place at a dinner party where two men connect in the kitchen. Finally, A Little Drama tells the story of Romeo and Juliet, a kiss, and the show’s lighting panel operator.

The Visitor
Cibrail (Sinan Hancili) is a young Turkish policeman living happily with his girlfriend in Berlin. He has integrated seamlessly into local culture, is socially active and financially stable. On the surface, his life looks perfect but something is causing him to have sleepless nights. When his girlfriend’s attractive male cousin (Engin Sert) arrives from Rome, Cibrail is instantly drawn to the handsome, charming visitor. The restless feelings and longing he has suppressed for years begin to bubble to the surface, setting off a chain of events that will turn everyone’s lives upside down. The Visitor is a sensual drama, exploring the dramatic consequences and rewarding journey of a man triggered into embracing who he really is.
