My Best Part
French superstar Nicolas Maury (Call My Agent!, Knife+Heart) wrote, directed and stars in this coming-of-age dramedy as Jérémie, a hypersensitive struggling actor who seems to suffer from uncontrollable bouts of jealousy. Grappling with personal loss, a love life in shambles and a faltering career, he returns home to the loving arms of his clear-headed mother (played by ten-time César Award nominee Nathalie Baye) for support – all while scoping out some potential new companions and preparing for his next big audition. A critically-acclaimed hit on the international film festival circuit, don’t miss this auspicious and touching directorial debut, an official selection from the 2020 Cannes Film Festival now available in the United States.

Nowhere
Adrian and Sebastian (Miguel González and Juan Pablo Castiblanco) live an openly gay life in New York as immigrants. When Sebastian’s visa is rejected, the two must decide whether to return to Colombia – where they face rejection and persecution for their sexual orientation – or do whatever is necessary to stay in the United States. Either way, the thoughts and discussions associated with the decision will have a profound effect on the couple. Hitting upon hot button issues, Nowhere is a riveting new romantic drama that places its characters within the context of the difficult immigration situation in the US – as well as a furthering sense of homelessness and lack of belonging, which consistently haunts out main protagonists.

A Dim Valley
Ecology grad students Albert and Ian (Whitmer Thomas and Zach Weintraub) are spending the summer collecting samples with their curmudgeonly advisor (Robert Longstreet). At his woodsy cabin along the Appalachian Trail, close quarters foster comical friction and unexpected bonds between the two young men. When three mysterious, enigmatic female backpackers (Rachel McKeon, Feathers Wise and Rosalie Lowe) crash into their lives, they push the men to open up to one another and their true feelings soon begin to deepen. A clever new indie gem from writer-director Brandon Colvin, A Dim Valley is partly a queer allegory, partly a hilarious stoner comedy and partly a transcendental meditation on mysticism and love.

Grimsey
After his break-up with Bruno (Richard Garcia), Norberto (Eugenio Sanz) decides to leave everything behind and disappear to Iceland. Bruno, however, won’t give up on their relationship and he travels to Reykjavik on a mission to find his ex. Following his arrival, Bruno meets Arnau (Raul Portero), a fellow Spaniard who is working as a tour guide. The pair set off on a journey that will take them around the country and ultimately to the remote island of Grimsey. The stark beauty and desolate isolation of the Icelandic landscape provide the perfect backdrop for the quiet contemplation that is at the heart of Garcia and Portero’s emotionally affecting film.

The Revival
A secret relationship between a preacher and a young drifter challenges the equilibrium of a church. When Eli (David Rysdahl) begins preaching at his father’s old church, he is desperate to open the minds of the Old Testament-obsessed, fire-and-brimstone congregation. His plans are quickly derailed when he strikes up a relationship with a fascinating drifter (Zachary Booth). Tensions soon come to a head, with simmering resentments and repressed emotions all leading to a revival that will shake this sleepy Arkansas town to its core. The Revival originated on the stage as a very successful off-Broadway play. Director Jennifer Gerber adapts the story into a film that is edgy, thought-provoking and essential.

A Stormy Night
Marcos (David Moragas) arrives in New York from Barcelona only to find out his layover flight to San Francisco has been cancelled due to a storm. This leaves him without a place to stay for the night. That’s how he meets Alan (Jacob Perkins), his old college friend’s roommate, who is happy to host him for the night. The two boys have nothing in common, but they will have to spend twelve hours and a New York storm together. Throughout the night, a series of misunderstandings lead the boys to challenge each other’s approach to love, relationships and happiness. They both have secrets to hide that are difficult to hold. And yet, the biggest challenge might be having to say goodbye to each other the morning after.

15 Years
Yoav (Oded Leopold), a successful architect, has everything he’s ever wanted: Dan (Udi Persi), his lover of fifteen years – a younger lawyer who adores him; and his best friend, Alma (Ruti Asarsai) – a successful artist, who is like a mother and a sister to him. However, when Alma announces she is pregnant, it ignites Dan’s desire to become a father himself. But Dan’s parental urges have the opposite effect on Yoav, who is haunted by long buried demons. Yoav’s tight grasp on his life begins to come apart, leading to self-destructive behavior that threatens to destroy his life with Dan, unravel his friendship with Alma, and cost him everything. Sexy and thoughtful with great acting, 15 Years is a must-see.

Desire Will Set You Free
A gay romance with a punk/hardcore aesthetic. Ezra (Yony Leyser), a struggling American writer, meets Sasha (Tim-Fabian Hoffmann), a Russian escort, and he introduces him to his world of clubs and parties – a dizzying and vibrant hedonistic underground. As they journey together through Berlin’s layered history and unique subcultural landscapes, inner desires threaten to disrupt everything. Fast-paced and sexy with eye-popping cinematography and production design, Desire Will Set You Free features an über-large cast of notable figures, including Amber Benson, “Godmother of Punk” Nina Hagen, infamous musician/performance artist Peaches and legendary gay artist/filmmaker Rosa Von Praunheim.

Soundless Wind Chime
Elegant and moving, the love story of two young men from different backgrounds is beautifully woven into this gorgeous tapestry of a film. Pascal (Bernhard Bulling) has been in a destructive, violent relationship. Picking pockets for a living, he spends an inordinate amount of time on the streets, scared even in his own home. When he meets the gentle and shy Ricky (Yulai Lü) at a street cafe, he finds a new purpose: to break through Ricky’s reticence to open his heart for love. Their turbulent, passionate relationship is the core of this emotionally rich gem. Shot with an intimacy and intelligence seldom seen in such low-budget indie films, Soundless Wind Chime is a superb feature from Hong Kong-based director Kit Hung.

Kept Boy
Farleigh Knock (Thure Riefenstein) is wildly successful. An famous interior designer and host of a successful reality show, Farleigh has great taste and uses his money to ensure that he’s surrounded by beautiful things. One of those “things” is Dennis (Jon Paul Phillips), Farleigh’s handsome, much-younger boyfriend – who lives the high-life thanks to his youth and good looks. There’s just one problem: no one stays young forever. As his thirtieth birthday approaches, his benefactor whispers those six little words every “kept boy” dreads hearing: “Get a job… or get out.” Soon enough, Dennis finds himself being replaced by a sexy, younger pool boy. No longer a kept boy, he finds himself a lost man – learning, slowly, that it’s never too late to become the man you should have been all along… and that, sometimes, living the good life with a sugar daddy can be bittersweet.

Top 3
From Swedish filmmaker Sofie Edvardsson, Top 3 is a unique, animated gay romantic comedy about life, making lists and what happens after falling helplessly in love. In this funny, bittersweet romantic comedy from Sweden, perpetual list-maker Anton (Eric Ernerstedt) falls completely in love with David (Jonas Jonsson), but things start to go awry when Anton realizes that his dreams in life might be in direct opposition to David’s.

Doors Cut Down
Guillermo (Israel Rodriguez) seems like your average high school student, but he’s hiding a naughty little secret. In private, he has become a suave expert at cruising his local shopping mall for gay sex. Always looking for a new trick, he even resorts to seducing his much older English tutor. When he finally meets the hottest guy he’s ever seen, a man who may mean more to him than just a hot fuck, Guillermo finds himself suddenly conflicted. Newly restored in High Definition, this sexy 18-minute Spanish comedy is back to thrill audiences once again! A massive hit on the LGBT film festival circuit at the time of its release – the year 2000, to be specific – Doors Cut Down caused quite a controversy due to its frank and graphic depiction of a young man’s sexual exploration. It has become something of a notorious gay cinema classic.

Here’s just five of our current favorites, from various years, that you may have missed – ALL available to watch INSTANTLY! These aren’t our TOP 5, by any means – just a handful of flicks we want to highlight.

Esteros

2016, Argentina

Sexy and heartfelt, Esteros tells the story of two men who get a second chance at love. Childhood friends Matías and Jerónimo (played as kids by Joaquin Parada and Blas Finardi Niz and as adults by Ignacio Rogers and Esteban Masturini) reunite in their hometown of Paso de los Libres, Argentina, on the banks of the Uruguay River. The summer before high school, their friendship transformed into something deeper, but their mutual attraction never came to fruition. More than a decade later they meet again, and the chemistry between them is palpable, but now Matías has a girlfriend who has traveled to his hometown for Carnival. Seeing his old friend, now so comfortable and confident, reawakens Matías’ feelings. This unexpected opportunity forces him to reassess his choices and to figure out whether he can turn his back on marriage in favor of the man he’s always loved. A powerful film that elicits feelings of nostalgia for the forgotten romances from our past, Esteros offers a satisfying glimpse into what might have been (and what might still be).

Out This Week: The Revival

Out this week, the emotional new romance The Revival explores faith in the Deep South in a drama that asks how far you’re willing to go for the things you believe in. A desperate young man wanders into town looking for food and shelter. A progressive pastor tries to open the minds of his Old Testament congregation. A born again, recovering alcoholic fights for his church. A pastor’s wife looks to her gay husband for salvation. All of this comes to a scorching climax and an old time revival this small Arkansas town will never forget.

Keep the Lights On star Zachary Booth leads an intimate cast in this must-see drama, based on the play by award-winning writer Samuel Brett Williams. Speaking about the film and its Arkansas setting, director Jennifer Gerber said “It’s vital to me that my films tackle real stories from the south. Arkansas has a wealth of talent and beauty which hasn’t been explored to its full potential. In my opinion, The Revival is a story that needs to be told. Given the current political climate we are in, I want to delve into the psychology of a community of people that make up much of our country but very little of our popular culture.”
