While the parents cling to normalcy, the children grow tired of repressing the truth about their late brother. When an unexpected stranger named Jameson (Kolton Stewart) arrives on the scene, everyone in the family must suddenly face the secrets and lies that have surrounded Mitchel’s life – as well as his untimely death. A fresh take on the Groundhog Day-style time loop narrative, The Obituary of Tunde Johnson is a riveting must-see, examining the overlaps of wealth and race, beauty and sexuality. Director Ali leRoi creates a disturbing universe where even the hereafter is a restless limbo upon which the burden of straddling many worlds at once constantly weighs.

Set in the early 1970s and the afterglow of sexual liberation, Saint-Narcisse is the newest film from master provocateur and reigning “King of Kink” Bruce LaBruce (Hustler White, L.A. Zombie, The Raspberry Reich, Gerontophilia) – and it might just be his best film yet! It has earned rave reviews from critics and currently holds a “100% Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. 02. Tu Me Manques
Following the death of his son, Jorge (Oscar Martinez) travels from conservative Bolivia to New York City in an effort to confront Sebastian (Fernando Barbosa), his son’s boyfriend. While Jorge struggles to accept his son’s out and proud lifestyle, Sebastian channels his grief into a bold stage production, honoring his lost love. A powerful LGBTQ tear-jerker about being one’s true self and finding acceptance, Tu Me Manques was the Official Selection from Bolivia for the Academy Awards in 2020 – a landmark achievement for a country with a notorious reputation for homophobia. The New York Times called the film “a moving and intellectually rewarding testament to queer life and loss.” Though it’s flown a little under the radar this year, we guarantee it’s one of 2021’s most moving films.

Tu Me Manques is available now on DVD and VOD.

Cola de Mono
Set on Christmas Eve in 1986 this wildly sexy film follows Borja (Cristobal Rodriguez-Costabal), a precocious teenager with a passion for film. As his extended family comes together to celebrate the holiday, the combined forces of the suffocating Chilean heat, free-flowing drinks and repressed desire contribute to the eruption of long-held secrets. This hypnotizing story from Chile is both an enticing family melodrama and an explicit erotic thriller about the ways that passion and desire control our lives – from our pop culture tastes to our sexual fantasies. Jam-packed with nudity and graphic sexuality, Cola de Mono is easily the sexiest and most audacious gay-themed Christmas movie we’ve ever seen (outside of adult film, of course).

Altered Innocence: Vol. 1
The cult studio label Altered Innocence is dedicated to releasing gay films with an artistic edge. Nearly three hours of LGBTQ and coming-of-age short films and music videos await you in their new cinematic mixtape supreme! Films from established auteurs like Peter Strickland (The Duke of Burgundy, In Fabric), Cam Archer (Wild Tigers I Have Known), Joao Nicolau (From John) and Yann Gonzalez (You and the Night, Knife+Heart) join fresh new voices such as Alexis Langlois, Shaun Hughes, Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel. Cruising, dancing, naked wrestling, trans terrorism, first love, bullies, femme fatales, band practice and much more is in store! Altered Innocence: Vol. 1 is a badass, must-see new collection!

Dry Wind
A gloriously erotic film from director Daniel Nolasco, Dry Wind follows factory worker Sandro (Leandro Faria Lelo) as he escapes his boredom via trysts with his co-worker Ricardo (Allan Jacinto Santana) – and through elaborate sexual fantasies that would make Tom of Finland blush. Though his sex life is in full swing, Sandro shies away from emotional attachment, preferring to imagine worlds of anonymity, leather and unbridled fetish-play – which Nolasco brings to life in widescreen glory. When a new arrival to town (Rafael Teóphilo) – a certified hunk out of Sandro’s dreams – sets his sights on Ricardo, Sandro finds himself brimming with jealousy and fearing exclusion from the kind of romance he never thought he wanted.

Utopians
From provocative Hong Kong-based filmmaker Scud, Utopians follows Hins (Adonis He), a dreamy young student of literature and philosophy who finds himself in thrall of his charismatic teacher Antonio (Jackie Chow). Antonio soon drags Hins and his religious girlfriend Joey (Fiona Wang) into uncharted erotic territories. The intriguing appearance of Swan (Moe Chin), a beautiful intellectual woman, only adds to their entanglement of sensuality and lust. What once seemed like a path towards a surreal and unrestrained utopia is now barred by a lifetime secrets and a lie of the heart. Will Hins lose himself amid the chaos of eroticism? Packed with nudity and graphic sex scenes, Utopians is a heady pansexual drama.

Like Cattle Towards Glow
Acclaimed author Dennis Cooper and co-director Zac Farley‘s Like Cattle Towards Glow is a wild, weird and arty 93 minute film consisting of five independent, thematically and emotionally interconnected scenes. The film is a complex, intimate, strangely serene, wide-ranging and always challenging experimental exploration of sexual desire as a hiding place. In these unique, stylistically and temperamentally diverse segments, sex makes a promise of something so intense and untenable to the characters that they feel they must enter it in secret. John Waters put it on his “Top 10 Films of the Year” list back in 2016 when it was first was released and called it “a real French tickler for the fucked-up literary set.”

Wild Tigers I Have Known
Visionary director Cam Archer portrays the lives of teens in awkward gay love. Originally released in 2006, Wild Tigers I Have Known was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival and LGBTQ film festivals around the globe. The film follows Logan (Malcolm Stumpf), a middle schooler who is crushing on an older classmate named Rodeo (Patrick White). As the pair spend time together, Logan’s infatuation grows. Exploring gender fluidity for the first time, he invents a female persona and starts making sexually provocative phone calls to Rodeo at night, hoping to get even closer to the object of his affection. For the film’s 15th Anniversary, Altered Innocence has put together a restored version of this experimental queer classic.

One in a Thousand
In the northern Argentine social housing neighborhood known as “One Thousand,” seventeen-year-old Iris (Sofia Cabrera) wanders the estate day and night in the summer heat, trying to stave off boredom by shooting hoops, hanging out with other teens in the project and fending off the unwanted advances of the horny boys. She’s aware that her sexually experienced gay cousins Dario and Ale (Mauricio Vila and Luis Molina) are sleeping with many of the neighborhood boys on the down low, but it’s not until she meets the mysterious Renta (Ana Carolina Garcia) that Iris feels the stirring of her own sexual awakening. One in a Thousand is a touching new indie film that captures a tender love story set in a hostile environment.

A Little Lust
Rocco (Andrea Amato) has two aims in life: to finally get laid and to see his favorite pop star in concert with his best friends. When a bullying incident at school forces Rocco to come out of the closet to his middle-class Italian parents, their liberal leanings are severely tested. Luckily, his friends stand by him and latch on to an impulsive plan to run away from home. The three buds are planning to go see their favorite singer in concert. They don’t realize, though, that they’re being followed by Rocco’s neurotic mother and his eccentric grandma – to hilarious effect. A vibrant and funny Italian family comedy, A Little Lust is both immersive and heartwarming – plus there’s a sweet, romantic twist you won’t want to miss.

The Harvesters
In this stirring debut, Greek-African filmmaker Etienne Kallos explores repressed sexuality, religion and masculinity in the deep South African countryside. Two teenage boys start a dangerous fight for power, heritage and parental love that will change both of their lives forever. Religion and field work are the guiding principles of their conservative farming community, where strength and masculinity are valued above all else. In this repressive environment, young Janno (Brent Vermeulen) keeps his feelings to himself. One day his mother brings home Pieter (Alex van Dyk), a hardened street orphan she wants to save, and asks Janno to treat this stranger as his new brother. The trouble is: Pieter does not want to be saved.

Fair Haven
After a long stay in ex-gay conversion therapy, James (Michael Grant), a young piano prodigy, returns home to his family farm and his emotionally distant father Richard (Tom Wopat). After Richard pressures James to give up his music career and take over the farm, James agrees as a way to make up for his past. Soon, however, he finds himself face-to-face with his former lover Charlie (Josh Green), who wants to help him turn away from his new beliefs and follow his dreams. A touching, deeply romantic drama, Fair Haven is often heartbreaking, but ultimately life-affirming – and the performances, across the board, are terrific. Young up-and-comers Green and Grant make their forbidden love palpable (and very sweet).

Directed by partners Alice De Luca and Giacomo Raffaelli under their joint creative banner Freeres, Ernesto was shot in the 4:3 aspect ratio to give viewers a sense of the fragments of the lead character’s life – as if the film you’re watching were a re-working of his own memories.

Either way, the thoughts and discussions associated with the decision will have a profound effect on the couple. Boy Meets Boy
Harry (Matthew James Morrison) has been partying for forty-eight hours straight when he meets Johannes (Alexandros Koutsoulis) on the dance floor of a club in Berlin. With fifteen hours left until Harry’s flight back to London, the young men spend the day together – wandering the city and experiencing the contrasts in their lives. As the two men grow closer in this short window of time, they begin to confront their own individual truths while developing a deep connection. Taking inspiration from the beloved gay hit Weekend and Richard Linklater’s Before Trilogy, Boy Meets Boy is a tender and deeply moving new gay romance that has been earning rave reviews from critics on the LGBTQ film festival circuit.

A Dim Valley
Ecology grad students Albert and Ian (Whitmer Thomas and Zach Weintraub) are spending the summer collecting samples with their curmudgeonly advisor (Robert Longstreet). At his woodsy cabin along the Appalachian Trail, close quarters foster comical friction and unexpected bonds between the two young men. When three mysterious, enigmatic female backpackers (Rachel McKeon, Feathers Wise and Rosalie Lowe) crash into their lives, they push the men to open up to one another and their true feelings soon begin to deepen. A clever new indie gem from writer-director Brandon Colvin, A Dim Valley is partly a queer allegory, partly a hilarious stoner comedy and partly a transcendental meditation on mysticism and love.

Stone Fruit
When long-term couple Manny and Russ (Matt Palazzolo and Rob Warner) decide to call their marriage quits and get a divorce, they also – quite strangely – decide to celebrate the occasion together. The pair head to the Central Coast of California for some wine, sun… and more wine! When Byron (Thomas Hobson), their close friend, joins up with them, an unexpected threesome ensues and the trip becomes the post-divorce party to end all post-divorce parties. This witty, sharply-written new film gives freshness to the classic break-up movie by bringing in a queer perspective and exploring the complicated similarities that many couples face throughout their love stories. It’s a proud “anti-romantic comedy.”

A Wake
Young actor Noah Urrea pulls double duty in this emotional drama, playing twin boys from a religious family. A Wake revolves around the funeral of Mitchel, a teen who died far too young. Everyone is reeling from the loss, but there is a generational divide when it comes to how the younger and older family members deal with grief. While the parents cling to normalcy, the children grow tired of repressing the truth about their late brother. When an unexpected stranger (Kolton Stewart) arrives on the scene, everyone in the family must suddenly face the secrets and lies that have surrounded Mitchel’s life – as well as his untimely death. Don’t miss this powerful new film from director Scott Boswell (The Stranger in Us).

When Andy loses his job, they decide to take in a handsome stranger named Sebastian (Chris Ellis-Stanton). Nightmares come to life as Andy realizes that Sebastian is hiding a dark secret. Could Sebastian be the killer stalking the streets of their neighborhood? A classically sexy horror-thriller, Drink Me is highly erotic, featuring three hot lead actors.

Shadowlands
Directed by Charlie David, Shadowlands tells three stories exploring the erotic and the macabre. The film begins in 1928 with a plastic surgeon hell-bent on human perfection. Fast forward to 1951 where we meet a gay military couple exploring the idea of opening their relationship while on a remote camping trip… where they meet a mysterious stranger. The stories conclude in 2018 when a painter, mourning the loss of his lover, becomes obsessed with re-creating him in his art.

Rapture in Blue
Ryder Houston’s Rapture in Blue follows a young man’s quest through flickering neon and hazy noir shadows to find his true self. After Jason (Bryce Lederer) tries to use his childhood home for a steamy rendezvous with his girlfriend, he discovers it newly occupied by the smoldering Sebastian (Tanner Garmon). Wracked with desires he’s long tried to ignore, a growing sense of unease permeates his life. He soon realizes he needs to confront the madness consuming him.

Bloody Knuckles
Travis (Adam Boys), an underground comic book artist, lost his hand to a thin-skinned Chinatown crime lord. Drinking way too much, Travis wallows in post-severed hand depression. But when his hand comes back to him, seemingly alive, slightly rotted and determined to exact revenge, they team up with a masked gay S&M superhero to rid the city of evil and criminality once and for all. Bloody Knuckles is a deliriously offensive, gory and happily un-PC horror-comedy.

The Year I Lost My Mind
From prolific director Tor Iben comes The Year I Lost My Mind, a titillating thriller about a lonely young man who becomes dangerously obsessed with a mysterious stranger. After encountering him during a burglary, Tom (Alexander Tsypilev) begins stalking and antagonizing the attractive young Lars (Julien Lickert). When Lars finds out about Tom’s intentions, he manages to turn the tables on him, leading to a shocking confrontation (and a whole lot of sexual tension).

Black Briefs
Curated by writer/director Rob Williams, Black Briefs features six short films with horror-adjacent stories and themes. Highlights include Hong Khaou’s Spring, about a young man who meets up with a stranger for some exploratory sadomasochistic sex; and Jack Plotnick’s Video Night, in which a group of filmmakers discover something unexpected in their footage. Our favorite is Greg Ivan Smith’s Remission, following a man, alone in a secluded cabin, haunted by a terrifying figure.

Kissing Darkness
A group of college boys, bored with the everyday “gay life” of LA, decide to skip pride weekend. Instead, they gear up for a camping trip in the woods. Quickly into their trip, the boys venture into a game that ultimately unleashes the vengeful spirit of a local legend known as “Malice Valeria.” Overcome by her deadly plan of tainted love and her thirst to take back what was lost long ago, the boys must now band together before they fall victim to the poisons of a broken heart.

Confessions
Dark, intense, funny, romantic and often shocking, this genre-hopping anthology film from director Mark Bessenger features sixteen monologues from different gay men. “The Actor,” “The Wrestler,” “The Porn Agent,” “The Beard,” “The Sweet Sixteen” and many more share their deepest secrets and most taboo desires (some of which are truly horrific) in quick, eye-popping vignettes. Don’t miss this unique, endlessly fun and achingly sexy experimental film.

Rift
Gunnar (Björn Stefánsson) is woken up late at night by a call from his former boyfriend, Einar (Sigurður Þór Óskarsson), who is staying at his summer home in a remote part of Iceland. When Einar confesses that he has the feeling he isn’t alone, Gunnar drives out to join him. As the two work to navigate their broken relationship, they’re seemingly being stalked by a mysterious stranger lurking outside the cabin. Rift is a chilling relationship drama and psychological thriller.

Innocent Boy
Off a lonely Texas highway, a group of hustlers prey on the desperados who come to their backwoods home for sex and drugs. When a murderous cowboy (Kamy D. Bruder) rolls into town, Penny (Unique Jenkins), a young trans boy, is pushed to survive the night and change his less-then-ideal life in the process. An expertly-crafted short film debut from writer-director Brock Cravy, Innocent Boy is a wild, colorful, shocking and original vision of queer horror.

Alpha Delta Zatan
Starring an all-male of cast of underwear-clad up-and-comers, Alpha Delta Zatan delivers audiences a fun, sensual spin on the “sorority massacre” sub-genre of horror flicks. A goofy but noble young college kid is pleasantly surprised to learn that he’s been invited to join his school’s most exclusive fraternity house. Unfortunately, he’s about to discover that there is something far scarier than hazing rituals in his future… especially once the masked, knife-wielding slasher shows up.

The Skin of the Teeth
When Josef (Pascal Arquimedes) arrives at John’s (Donal Brophy) apartment for a date, their prickly energy slowly gives way to genuine chemistry. But after swallowing a pill with mind-bending effects, Josef quickly slides helplessly down a rabbit hole of temporal sleight-of-hand, plunged into a surreal interrogation of everything he is. A critically-acclaimed hit at film festivals, director Matthew Wollin’s heady thriller drew comparisons to Jordan Peele’s Get Out.

Into the Lion’s Den
Bored with the West Hollywood gay scene, three friends embark on a cross-country road trip. Fate brings them to “The Lion’s Den”, a secluded backwoods bar where not everything is as it seems. Someone at the bar is watching them and setting a deadly trap. Now, as closing time draws near, a night of unspeakable horrors begins. Jesse Archer and Ronnie Kroell headline this bold, uncompromising thriller that takes some sinister twists and turns.

Bite Marks
Hunky truck driver Brewster (Benjamin Lutz) takes over his missing brother’s delivery of coffins. On the way to his funeral home destination, he picks up some hitchhikers: the cute and wise-cracking Cary (Windham Beacham) and his smitten but tense boyfriend Vogel (David Alanson). When a faulty GPS leads them to a deserted junkyard, an assortment of blood-thirty monsters begin to attack! Now, the mismatched trio must try to survive until dawn in this gory gay indie.

Devil’s Path
Two strangers (Stephen Twardokus and JD Scalzo) meet in a wilderness park where gay men cruise for sex. What seems like an innocent and random meeting quickly descends into a horrific nightmare. With recent disappearances, the two men find themselves in a deadly game of cat and mouse. As they flee further into the woods to escape the danger, they begin to understand that the greatest danger of all may be closer than either of them realize.

Tooth 4 Tooth
Beginning with a confrontation between religious zealots and drag performers, this stylish short horror film from director Alice Maio Mackay examines both literal and figurative monsters. While investigating the morder of a friend, a drag artist and an activist film themselves caught in an old war between those who feed on the blood of the fearful and those who feed on the blood of the hateful. Tooth 4 Tooth is a clever horror flick that marks the arrival of a promising filmmaker.

A Closer Walk with Thee
Jordan (AJ Knight) is a good Christian kid, except that he’s starting to have impure sexual thoughts about his close friend and fellow missionary Eli (Gregory Shelby). Eli, a fledgling exorcist, suggests that a demonic possession might be causing these feelings. Indeed, Jordan begins to enact signs of possession, prompting Eli to take action. What begins as a ritualistic method of trying to save their friendship quickly spirals out of control and descends into darkness and violence.

Der Samurai
Jakob (Michel Diercks) is a policeman in a village deep in the woods, where little happens until the arrival of a mysterious wolf starts causing havoc. Working the night shift, Jakob is tracking the wolf… only to discover that the lupine lurker is actually a man clad only in lipstick and a ladies’ slip, and toting a samurai sword that he uses to lop off the heads of the townspeople. Jakob and the samurai seem to share a bond, and as the night gets darker, events get even weirder.

Knife+Heart
This sexually explicit throwback thriller from visionary writer-director Yann Gonzalez is a must-see. Vanessa Paradis stars as Anne, a savvy French woman who produces third-rate gay porn. When one of her actors is brutally murdered, Anne gets caught up in a strange investigation that turns her life upside-down. Shot on 35mm and featuring a killer retro score, Knife+Heart is an ultra-stylish and blood-soaked ode to 1970s-era Brian De Palma, Dario Argento and William Friedkin.

Photo Gallery: Everything at Once

A seductive documentary, Everything at Once profiles Paco Moyano and Manolo Rodriguez, two Catalan photographers from the outskirts of Barcelona who have been together for thirty years.

Inspired by Caravaggio, Pasolini and Agnes Varda among others, their simple yet sophisticated style records the sex appeal of working class men, using natural light and abandoned locations. With great compassion and understanding, Paco and Manolo build an intimate relationship with their subjects, capturing not only their bare bodies but their inhibitions as well. In the end, they reveal just as much about themselves as they do the nude men in front of their cameras.

Everything At Once tells the beautiful story of two fascinating artists and a special relationship that has lasted for three decades.

Gypsy 83
Two goth misfits living in Sandusky, Ohio – musician Gypsy Vale (Sara Rue) and her younger queer protégé Clive Webb (Kett Turton) – decide to run away together to New York City so Gypsy can participate in an epic Stevie Nicks-cosplay event called “Night of 1,000 Stevies.” Along the way, they encounter other misfits that pave the way to their salvation, including washed-up singer Bambi LeBleau (played by the late, great Karen Black) and a confused Amish runaway (Anson Scoville). An indie hit when it was first released in 2001, Gypsy 83 is a touching queer coming-of-age flick from writer-director Todd Stephens (the filmmaker behind Another Gay Movie, Edge of Seventeen and the upcoming Swan Song). The film was recently remastered by the cult film label Altered Innocence.

No Hard Feelings
Parvis (Benjamin Radjaipour), the son of exiled Iranians, copes with life in his small hometown by indulging himself with pop culture, Grindr dates and raves. After being caught shoplifting, he is sentenced to community service at a refugee shelter where he meets siblings Banafshe and Amon (Banafshe Hourmazdi and Eidin Jalali), who have recently fled Iran. As a romantic attraction between Parvis and Amon grows, the fragile relationship between the three is put to the test. They find and lose each other throughout a summer of fleeting youth, an intense first love, an attempt at a joint future and the stark realization that, in Germany, they are not entirely equal. A critically-acclaimed new romantic drama, No Hard Feelings won the coveted Teddy Award for Best Queer Feature Film.

Cousins
Lucas (Paulo Sousa) lives with his religious Aunt Lourdes (Juliana Zancanaro) in a quiet, remote country town in Brazil. With nothing much else going on, the youngster spends his days gardening, playing keyboard and trying to avoid his aunt’s meddling attempts to set him up with the local girls. His life, however, is about to change drastically. He finds himself unexpectedly sharing a roof with Mario (played by screenwriter and co-director Thiago Cazado), a trouble-making distant cousin who has recently been released from prison. When pious Aunt Lourdes leaves for a religious retreat, Lucas and Mario become friends… and much, much more. Cousins is writer-director team Mauro Carvalho and Thiago Cazado’s second feature film following their debut romance About Us.

Socrates
When his mother dies, fifteen-year-old Socrates (Christian Malheiros) quickly finds his already tenuous life in the favelas of São Paulo pushed to the brink. Guided by an often-explosive temper, the volatile youth is desperate to find a job in order to keep the rent paid and to stay off the streets. When he crosses paths with the mysterious Maicon (Tales Ordakji), whose sketchy offer of quick cash takes Socrates to a wholly unexpected place, the young orphan must decide where his life is headed, what kind of person he is and who he will become. All the while, he’s desperately searching for his mother’s remains in order to say goodbye one last time. An astonishing film from writer-director Alexandre Moratto, Socrates won the coveted Someone to Watch Award at the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Heartstone
In a remote fishing village in Iceland, teens Thor and Christian (Baldur Einarsson and Blaer Hinriksson) experience a turbulent summer. As one of them tries to win the heart of a girl, the other discovers that he is harboring romantic feelings for his best friend. When summer ends and the harsh nature of Iceland takes back its rights, it’s time to leave the playground and face adulthood for the first time. A gorgeous, emotional coming-of-age film, Heartstone won over critics all over the world. The Playlist said it’s “beautifully shot, touchingly performed and delivered with a thrillingly atmospheric sense of place.” And Screen International said it’s “affecting as well as perceptive in how it intimately depicts the blossoming of youth… just the right amount of confidence, compassion and clear-eyed style.”

Now Available On-Demand: The Carnival

Marco Berger, the prolific director behind The Blonde One, Young Hunter, Absent, Hawaii, Taekwondo and more, has a new movie available on-demand! The Carnival is a clever pseudo-documentary which centers around two men who grew up in the town of Gualeguaychú, a city in the east of Argentina near the border of Uruguay.

Every summer, the residents participate in the town’s traditional carnival, which transforms the men of the community into Dionysian figures via costumes, glitter and feathers.

While Berger captures the action – and the mostly straight male participants’ bodies – he also blurs the line between fiction and non-fiction, adding his unique cinematic spin, homoerotic themes and eye for dynamic male relationships to color and comment on the proceedings.
