Two straight best friends try to have a threesome… and shit gets weird.
Threesomething follows Isaac and Charlie (James Morosini and Sam Sonenshine), straight buddies who want more out of their friendship… and decide to organize a threesome. Enter Zoe (Isabelle Chester), a cosmic bohemian wild woman living in a glass tree house, who’s actually just trying to get her shit together. Zoe and Isaac fall in love, fast and hard. Charlie falls into a crisis of masculinity. All three flounder as they earnestly seek an experience slightly beyond their grasp, trying to figure out what turns them on and what gets them off.
The three lead actors are naturally funny and have great chemistry, and though the film concerns two straight buddies, there’s a healthy dose of homoeroticism thrown into the mix (whether these two characters like it or not). Also, James Morosini and his co-star Sam Sonenshine are both unreasonably attractive – very easy on the eyes and frequently in different states of undress throughout the movie!
Threesomething is a true indie passion project. Not only do Morosini and Sonenshine star in the film, but they’re both behind it as creative collaborators. They co-wrote and produced the film together, with Morosini directing. According to their website…
“After attending USC together, James Morosini and Sam Sonenshine didn’t like each other very much. James thought Sam was a judgmental jerk, Sam thought James was full of himself and a little nuts. After they took each other up on a half-hearted, “Let’s grab coffee sometime” offer, and small talk turned into uncomfortable silence, one of them admitted hurt feelings. That coffee turned into a multiple hour conversation, spent unpacking many many weird encounters, with both admitting to feelings of competitiveness and insecurity. They realized that a lot of the stuff they had never discussed was mutually felt. This was the beginning of a friendship. The two have since collaborated consistently, working on short films, sketches, and other projects. After building a strong foundation of short-form content, they wanted to tell a bigger story, and they decided to tackle the weirdness of intimacy within male friendships. Many late night conversations and days spent working in each others’ small apartments led to ten days of shooting their first feature film over Christmas break in 2016. They haven’t stopped since.”
