A classic and timeless story rewritten to represent today’s diversity, Romeu & Romeu is a must-see. This gorgeous Brazilian series was produced independently, has won several awards around the world and is now coming to DVD in November thanks to Dekkoo Films.

Romeu & Romeu adapts the classic love story “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare. Following some patterns of the original version, this new version of the story takes place today, in the fictional city of Verona of the South, where the Montagues and Capulets are replaced by the Campelos and Monteiros, powerful families that share a bitter rivalry known throughout the entire the city, in the shadow of a crime committed in the past. The similarities to the original story end there. Romeo and Juliet become Romulo (Arthur Chermont) and Ramon (Joao Mesquita), characters that mix personality traits of both originals, giving a new life to the well-known characters and plot.

Directed by Jonathan Mendonca, a young man who already had works exhibited at the Cannes Film Festival, and produced by Barbara Cury and Julia Conatti, the series has visual and cinematographic flair. The show has garnered passionate reactions from fans on social networks, and already has more than one million views in its first season. Arthur Chermont‘s screenplay was awarded in the Web Series International Trophy and his acting as the protagonist Romulo also won him the award for Best Actor in Drama at Rio Webfest, where the series was also recognized with awards for Best Drama Series and Best Diversity Series, as well as nominations in the categories of Best Director and Best Art Direction. The series was also awarded as the best Brazilian series at the O CUBO festival and was nominated at Sicily Web Fest and Seoul Webfest.
